What are the green features of homes with high EPC ratings?

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) reflects how much energy it takes to power and heat a home.

An energy rating for a home ranges from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). Each home will also receive a score out of 100. You can expect lower energy bills if the number is higher.

Some of the factors that can influence the EPC score are the home's heating system, how it's controlled, whether the windows are double or triple glazed, and how well the floors and walls are insulated.

Which features contribute to a property's energy efficiency?

We share the energy-saving features installed in homes:

Smart lighting

Smart Lighting with app

EPC ratings are influenced by a home's lighting. A household's energy consumption can be reduced by using energy-efficient light bulbs, such as LEDs (light emitting diodes).

It is also possible to automate smart LED lighting. Apps can control an entire home's lighting system instead of wall switches.

EPC 'A' rated homes

EPC A Rated Home - Carpenter Surveyors

For your home's energy-efficiency certificate, you will see two numbers: a current score (what it scored at the time the certificate was ordered) and a potential score (what it could achieve if the recommendations are followed).

Triple glazing

Triple glazing - Carpenter Surveyors

Home owners are now considering this type of upgrade to make their home more energy efficient, as windows lose the most heat.

Solar panels

Insulation

Insulation helps keep a house comfortable year-round, not just during the winter. You're less likely to have heat escaping through poorly insulated walls or roofs, or to have draughts during winter.

Air source heat pump

Heat pumps are a low-carbon alternative to gas boilers. Electric air source heat pumps transfer heat from the outdoors to your home.
